A call of a few minutes can create days of mental stress. Stay aware, stay alert, and never let fear
I received a call from an unknown number, and the entire incident has disturbed me mentally for the past two days. The person claimed to be from the Cyber Police and even introduced himself as a DSP. He knew my name and asked for my location just for confirmation — and honestly, that alone is enough to put anyone into panic mode. The only reason this affected me so much is because I have never been involved in anything wrong, and the thought of my parents facing unnecessary mental stress because of something like this scared me the most. I kept thinking, “If I haven’t done anything wrong, why would I receive such a call?” One of my seniors also mentioned that sometimes such fraudsters get access to people’s basic details through career portals or publicly available databases and misuse that information to create fear and trouble individuals. Hearing this made me realize how careful we need to be with our personal information online. When I tried calling the number back, he didn’t answer. Even my friend tried contacting him, but there was no response, and later the number was switched off. My friend immediately told me that this could be a fraud attempt where people create fear by pretending to be officials. A few others also advised me to report and block the number, especially since it was already showing as spam on Truecaller. This incident taught me an important lesson — even one spam report should not be ignored when it comes to protecting your mental peace. Genuine officials have proper communication channels and verification processes; a random threatening call creating panic is a major warning sign. For the first time experiencing something like this, it was genuinely stressful, but it also made me more aware about such scams and the importance of staying calm, verifying information, and not letting fear control you.
