Beware of a fake Orange pass scam

Today, while I was in the car, a woman with a strong Peul accent called me. She told me that she had just sent me an Illimix Internet pass worth 7,500 F CFA and asked me, as a favor, if I could give her 3,000 F CFA, leaving me the remaining 4,500 F CFA. During the call, 3 to 5 seconds after she told me about the transfer, I received an SMS apparently confirming the pass. Honestly thinking I was helping someone in need. After thanking me, she even offered the number of her father, presented as a marabout, for prayers. I declined and simply wished her the best. It was only when I got home that I realized it was a scam. The SMS did not come from Orange, but from the number I had saved under her name. And most importantly, I remembered the crucial detail: the message arrived after she told me about the transfer, whereas it should normally have arrived before her call. In the end, I lost 5,000 F CFA. I don't really regret it because I helped in good faith. But I’m sharing this so others don’t fall into the same trap. Always check the sender of the SMS before sending money.
