This morning I received a phone call from someone claiming to be connected with Asmi Departmental Store, where I had recently made a purchase. The caller knew details about my visit, including the amount I paid through bKash and approximately when I was there, which made the story sound very convincing. I was told that another customer had used counterfeit cash and that my phone number had allegedly been linked to the matter by mistake. Shortly afterward, I received a WhatsApp call from someone claiming to be a police officer. After asking a few questions, they started requesting personal information and asked me to share a verification code that would be sent to my phone. At that point, I realized it was a scam and immediately ended the call. Thankfully, I did not share any personal information or verification codes. However, others might not recognize the warning signs in time. This raises serious concerns about customer privacy and data security. How did scammers obtain information about my purchase, payment amount, phone number, and visit timing? I'm sharing this to make others aware. If you receive a similar call, do not share any OTP, verification code, password, or personal information over the phone. Stay safe and stay alert.
