be aware

Scammers are getting smarter every day, and one of the most worrying trends is fake “police” calls. These callers try to scare you by claiming you’ve missed a court date, that a family member has been arrested, or that you’ll face legal trouble unless you pay immediately. They often push for quick payments via gift cards, payment apps, or cryptocurrency, and count on your fear to stop you from thinking clearly. Remember: real police do not demand instant payment over the phone or pressure you into sharing bank details or passwords. If you’re ever in doubt, hang up, verify the number, and call the official police department yourself. Using tools like Truecaller’s Caller ID and spam blocking can also help you spot and avoid these dangerous calls before you pick up.
