Did I make a mistake?

so for the past few days I have been getting calls from a business in Massachusetts, USA using a VPN so that I cant call them back. True Caller shows that it's a business with the name "Old Republic Ti" and they have been asking for my father's number so I gave it to them because True Caller didn't suspect it as a spam and I told my mother about it and she said that it doesn't matter if it shows verified or not it's a scam call so then my father and I blocked the number and reported it as spam. Was the Caller a suspect scam and I did the right or was it just a big misunderstanding?
