  You have to be careful, sometimes they send verification codes in case you want to, for example, create a Gmail account, and they verify that your phone number is the same one you're using for the new Gmail. But if you didn't do anything, or if they arrive suddenly, with or without links, be careful.

  These codes are sent to you by a company when you request a service. For example, I applied for a credit card at Sears, and they sent me a code for identification. If you are not requesting any service or configuring anything, ignore it, as it could be an attempt at fraud or hacking.
