I was searching on Google for a personal loan. After that, my Facebook and Instagram feeds started showing ads for instant loan apps. I downloaded two of those apps. One of them showed I was eligible for a ₹50,000 loan. During the KYC process, the app suddenly asked me to pay ₹5,000. I decided to stop and didn't continue. About two hours later, I was shocked to find ₹2,300 credited to my bank account without my consent. The app then demanded that I repay ₹5,000. Out of fear, I even paid back the ₹2,300, but the harassment didn't stop. Now they are calling my family and friends from my contact list, abusing them and threatening us. This is how many fake loan apps trap innocent people. Please don't install loan apps from random ads on Google, Facebook, or Instagram. I was just checking online to see if I could get a loan. I came across a couple of loan apps and entered some basic details like my PAN number and bank account information just to check my eligibility. I never accepted any loan, signed any agreement, or confirmed anything. However, after about three hours, I noticed that ₹1,800 had been credited to my bank account two or three times without my knowledge or permission. The very next day, I started receiving threatening calls and WhatsApp messages. They demanded that I repay three times the amount they had sent. They threatened to contact my family members, relatives, friends, and people in my contact list. They also said they would edit my photos, create fake and obscene images, and circulate them to my contacts if I didn't pay immediately. I did not panic or give in to their threats. Instead, I called the Cyber Crime Helpline and explained everything. A cyber crime inspector guided me and advised me to block all their phone numbers immediately. I followed the instructions, blocked every number, and changed my WhatsApp privacy settings so that unknown people could not contact me. I also subscribed to Truecaller Premium to automatically block spam and scam calls. It has now been five or six months since this happened, and I have not faced any problems at all. None of their threats came true. The money they transferred to my account without my authorization was never requested by me, and I simply spent it. So please don't be scared if something similar happens to you. These scammers mainly rely on fear to make people pay. Don't panic. Block all their numbers, ignore their messages, and never respond to their threats. Also, go to WhatsApp's advanced privacy settings and enable the option to limit messages and calls from unknown numbers. That extra layer of protection is very helpful. Stay calm, stay alert, and report such incidents to the Cyber Crime authorities instead of giving in to the scammers.
