PayPal sends official SMS notifications through verified short codes or official system channels, not random international mobile numbers. ​Fake Phone Number Prompt: Real financial institutions will direct you to log into your account or call the official support number listed on their website—they won't ask you to call a random number provided in an SMS. ​Urgency & Panic Tactics: Creating a fake charge (A$445.50) is designed to make you act quickly out of fear before thinking it through. ​Formatted to Bypass Spam Filters: The text is split into multiple short, separate messages to evade automated SMS spam detection. ​How the Scam Works ​If you call the number in the text, a scammer pretending to be "PayPal Security" will try to: ​Convince you to grant them remote access to your computer or phone (using apps like AnyDesk or TeamViewer). ​Trick you into logging into your bank account so they can steal your credentials or transfer money out. ​What You Should Do Now ​Do NOT call the number or reply to the text message. ​Check your PayPal account directly: Open your official PayPal app or log in at paypal.com in a browser. You will see that no such transaction exists. ​Block and report: Block the sender's number and delete the message.
