SCAM ALERT: Beware of Fake Rental Listings on NoBroker
A new scam is targeting people searching for rental homes. Scammers are listing luxury villas, premium apartments, and rooms in gated communities at surprisingly low rents to attract potential tenants. The properties look genuine, the photos are attractive, and the rent seems like a great deal. What happens next? You contact the owner and schedule a visit. Once you reach the location, they claim that the property is inside a gated community and that an entry pass is required. They then ask for your ID proof, photograph, and a payment of Rs. 2,000 (or another amount) as a "refundable entry pass" or "security pass" fee. They promise that the amount will be refunded after the property visit. After receiving the payment and personal documents, they stop responding, make excuses, or disappear completely. In many cases, the property either does not exist or is not available for rent. Warning Signs: Luxury property listed at an unrealistically low rent. Demand for payment before viewing the property. Request for Aadhaar, PAN, passport, or personal photographs. "Refundable" entry pass, visitor pass, or security fee. Pressure to make immediate payment. How to Protect Yourself: Never pay any amount before physically verifying the property and owner. Do not share sensitive documents with unknown individuals. Verify property ownership independently. Report suspicious listings to the platform immediately. If you have been scammed, report it to the National Cyber Crime Portal and your local police. If a rental deal looks too good to be true, it probably is. Please share this post to help others stay safe from rental scams. #ScamAlert #NoBroker #RentalScam #PropertyFraud #CyberCrime #TenantSafety #HouseHunting #FraudAwareness
