The "Remote Control" Refund
I was frustrated. A ₹1,200 food order in Bengaluru had failed, but the money was deducted. I Googled "FoodApp Customer Care" and called the first number that popped up in the search results. The "agent" sounded professional. "Don't worry, sir," he said. "To process the instant refund, just download a small diagnostic tool called AnyDesk so I can verify your transaction ID." It sounded technical and legitimate. I downloaded the app and gave him the 9-digit code. Within seconds, my phone screen started moving on its own. I watched, paralyzed, as he opened my banking app. He wasn't "syncing" a refund; he was viewing my screen in real-time to see my login patterns. I realized the trap just as he reached for my SMS folder to read an OTP. I yanked the battery out (or forced a restart) and uninstalled the app immediately.
