ScamFeed Community Guidelines

Effective: July 3, 2026

Applies to: ScamFeed posts, comments, and any related content in the Truecaller app and connected surfaces from users.

1) About ScamFeed

ScamFeed is a user-generated community feed inside Truecaller where people can report and discuss scams in real time. It is intended to help users spot patterns, stay alert, and share safety tips.

ScamFeed may include (i) content posted by users, and (ii) independent, separate platform-generated statistical aggregations or scam pattern trend analyses (“Platform Materials”). All user posts, comments, and related data remain strictly User-Generated Content (“UGC”) under Section 79 of the Information Technology Act, 2000. Truecaller acts solely as an intermediary host for UGC and does not curate, modify, select, or validate individual user submissions.

Where Platform Materials utilize AI-generated or AI-assisted mechanisms, they will be appropriately labeled in accordance with applicable law.

ScamFeed content (including any Truecaller summaries) may not be verified. Please use your own judgment and verify information independently.

2) Core Principles

  • Be respectful and constructive. Disagreement is fine; harassment is not.
  • Stay on topic: posts should relate to scams, fraud patterns, or scam prevention.
  • Protect privacy: avoid sharing personal data (yours or anyone else’s).
  • Be accurate and responsible: share what you know, and clearly separate facts from assumptions.
  • Follow the law and these guidelines at all times.

3) What to Post

Helpful ScamFeed posts typically include:

  • What happened: short summary of the scam tactic.
  • How contact happened: call/SMS/WhatsApp/email/social media/app, etc.
  • What the scammer asked for: OTPs, payments, remote access, personal details, etc.
  • Clues that may help others (without exposing personal data): domains, screenshots with redactions, and the scam “script”.
  • What you did next: blocked/reported, contacted the bank, filed a complaint, etc.

Redaction reminder

Before uploading screenshots or photos, redact or blur personal and sensitive information. You represent and warrant that any content uploaded by you shall not contain any sensitive or personal data without legal basis, and such content may be blocked or removed.

4) Prohibited Content (Do Not Post)

To keep ScamFeed safe and lawful, and in compliance with applicable laws, users are absolutely prohibited from hosting, displaying, uploading, modifying, publishing, transmitting, storing, updating, or sharing any information that: (i) belongs to another person and to which the user does not have any right; (ii) is obscene, pornographic, pedophilic, invasive of another’s privacy including bodily privacy, insulting or harassing on the basis of gender, racially or ethnically objectionable, relating or encouraging money laundering or gambling, or an online game that causes user harm, or promoting enmity between different groups on the grounds of religion or race with the intent to provoke violence; (iii) is harmful to child; (iv) infringes any patent, trademark, copyright or other proprietary rights; (v) deceives or misleads the addressee about the origin of the message or knowingly and intentionally communicates any misinformation or information which is patently false and untrue or misleading in nature; (vi) impersonates another person; (vii) threatens the unity, integrity, defence, security or sovereignty of India, friendly relations with foreign States, or public order, or causes incitement to the commission of any cognisable offence or prevents investigation of any offence or is insulting other nation; (viii) contains software virus or any other computer code, file or program designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the functionality of any computer resource; (ix) is in the nature of an online game or an advertisement or surrogate advertisement for an online game that is not verified as a permissible online game under law; and (x) violates any law for the time being in force. Further instructions on posting are given below.

A. Personal data, doxxing, and sensitive IDs

Do not post:

  • Government-issued IDs or numbers (e.g., Aadhaar, PAN, passport, driving licence) — even if you believe they are fake — and sensitive financial identifiers (bank account details, card numbers, UPI IDs, IFSC, or similar).
  • Home addresses, private phone numbers, email addresses, or other contact details of any individual (including alleged scammers), unless you have obtained valid consent in accordance with applicable law or have a valid legal basis to share such information.
  • Photos of people, faces, or documents that identify someone, unless you have explicit permission and it is lawful to share.
  • Threats, encouragement of harassment, or vigilante actions (including “call-bombing”). Call-bombing means coordinating or encouraging many people to repeatedly call, message, or otherwise overwhelm a person/number to harass them or disrupt service.
  • Metadata that reveals identity or location, such as images that still contain hidden location or device data, message headers, transaction IDs, tracking numbers or timestamps that can reasonably identify an individual.

B. Unlawful, harmful, or abusive content

No:

  • Harassment, bullying, threats, hate speech, or targeted abuse based on protected characteristics.
  • Sexually explicit content, nudity intended for sexual gratification, or any content involving exploitation of minors.
  • Content promoting or glorifying violence, terrorism, or illegal activity.
  • Malware, links intended to compromise devices, or instructions that enable wrongdoing.
  • Posts urging people to go after, shame or mass-report someone instead of using proper reporting channels.
  • Instructions or tactics for evading law enforcement, moderation systems or platform safeguards, even when framed as “educational.”

C. Misinformation, impersonation, and manipulation

No:

  • Knowingly false or misleading information presented as fact.
  • Impersonation of another person, business, government entity, or “official” Truecaller representation.
  • Using Truecaller’s brand assets (logo/name) in a way that suggests you are Truecaller or endorsed by Truecaller when you are not.
  • Unverified accusations presented as fact or speculation that could reasonably harm a person or organisation’s reputation.
  • Edited, out-of-context or AI-generated material presented as genuine evidence.

D. Synthetic Content

Scamfeed is a platform for authentic, first-hand reporting of scam and fraud experiences. Users may only share genuine, unaltered content — including real screenshots and personal accounts. AI-generated, AI-altered, or synthetically created content that appears to be genuine or real is not permitted on Scamfeed. Any such content undermines the integrity of scam reporting and will be removed.

E. Spam and promotion

No:

  • Unsolicited advertising, referral spam, repetitive posting, or promotional campaigns unrelated to scam prevention.
  • Posting the same content repeatedly, or using ScamFeed mainly to drive traffic to external sites/channels.
  • Posts designed to get likes, shares, follows or drive people off the platform.
  • Fundraising or donation requests, even if framed as scam recovery or investigation support.

F. Intellectual property and confidential information

Don’t post:

  • Copyrighted content you don’t own or have rights to share.
  • Confidential, proprietary, or insider information you are not legally entitled to disclose.
  • Leaked databases, dumps or scraped datasets, even if publicly accessible elsewhere.
  • Internal moderation logs, law-enforcement correspondence or platform enforcement actions not intended for public release.

5) Anonymity and Account Responsibility

  • If you post anonymously, you must still follow these guidelines and applicable law.
  • You are responsible for what you post and for keeping your account secure.

6) Your Continued Obligation to Truecaller Terms & Privacy Policy

When you use ScamFeed on the Truecaller app, you continue to be bound by and subject to Truecaller’s applicable Terms of Service and Truecaller’s Privacy Policy.

7) Reporting, Complaints, and Grievances

If you see content that violates these guidelines or applicable law, please report it. Reporting helps us review and take action quickly.

There are two ways to report:

  1. In the app: Use the in-product Report option on the post/comment to report spam, illegal content, or content in violation of these guidelines.
  2. Write to our Grievance Officer: If you have a complaint, grievance, legal concerns or believe there is a violation of your legal right, you can also write to the Grievance Officer at rgo.india@truecaller.com.

When writing, include:

  • A link to the content (or enough details for us to locate it), screenshots, and timestamps
  • Why you believe it violates these Community Guidelines and/or applicable law
  • What outcome you are requesting

8) Enforcement and How Moderation Works

ScamFeed is designed to publish user content quickly and then apply safety enforcement. We use a mix of automated systems and human review to identify and address violations.

  • Automated systems may be used to detect illegal content, abuse, spam, or personal data exposure. Our moderation team continually builds and refines tools to proactively detect violations at scale, monitoring data signals and analysing historic patterns of abuse.
  • Where automated systems identify potentially violating content, post-publication human review may be triggered by user reports and safety signals.
  • If content is removed, a notice may be displayed or provided to the user who posted such content explaining the reason for removal (where permitted).
  • To protect against abuse of our reporting systems, we may restrict features, reduce visibility, or suspend accounts for repeated or severe violations.

9) Use of ScamFeed Content by Truecaller

License Grant over User-Generated Content: You retain nominal ownership of any intellectual property rights in the text, screenshots, media, or data strings you post as UGC on ScamFeed. However, by submitting, posting, or displaying UGC on or through ScamFeed, you hereby grant to Truecaller an absolute, perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, fully paid-up, transferable, and fully sub-licensable (through multiple tiers) license to host, store, use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, publicly perform, publicly display, and exploit such UGC in any and all media or distribution methods now known or later developed. This license is granted without any requirement of compensation, accounting, notification, or attribution to you or any third party. This license continues in perpetuity even if you cease using ScamFeed, terminate your Truecaller account, or delete the app.

This may include featuring ScamFeed content in awareness formats such as TrueTalks and trust and safety feature of Truecaller. You acknowledge and agree that this license expressly empowers Truecaller to utilize your UGC to train machine learning models, refine automated fraud detection algorithms, and generate synthesized Platform Materials. If you provide your name/account details with the content, we may publish it in association with your name/account; otherwise, we may publish it anonymously. To the maximum extent permitted under applicable law, you hereby irrevocably and unconditionally waive all 'moral rights', rights of attribution, integrity, or any equivalent rights anywhere in respect of such UGC.

Distinct from UGC, if you submit, transmit, or communicate any suggestions, feedback, feature ideas, optimization plans, or conceptual designs regarding the functionality, interface, or engineering of ScamFeed, or otherwise in relation to the Truecaller application (“Feedback”), you hereby execute an absolute, irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide, assignment of all right, title, and interest (including all intellectual property rights) in and to such Feedback to Truecaller. Truecaller shall own all Feedback from the moment of its creation and shall be entitled to utilize, implement, commercialize, copy, and exploit such Feedback in its absolute discretion for any purpose whatsoever including product development, marketing, and intellectual property registrations without any obligation of confidentiality, restriction, attribution, financial accounting, or royalty payment to you.

We will not intentionally republish sensitive personal data, and may remove or redact it where detected or reported.
