Introducing Truecaller Chat, an instant messaging (IM) service to chat with your Truecaller friends and help avoid the spreading of viral fake news.

With the aim to make communication safer and to preventing fake news from circulating, the IM platform will allow people to report spam messages and links, ensuring that fake news is not circulated unchecked by our community. Truecaller Chat is currently available in

for Android, and will be rolling out to the public on Google Play in the next coming weeks.

Truecaller has helped erode spam faced by users as phone calls through the Caller ID and has also smoothened the SMS experience by filtering unwanted messages. As a step towards decreasing the spread of fake information, we’re looking to our community to help report fake articles, misinformed blogs, and any type of websites that could pose threats or even cause viruses.

Additionally, Truecaller Chat is bundled with interesting features such as, auto-switch between SMS and Chat, which will help users keep conversations in one place. Other features include full media support and more that will provide its users a polished and enjoyable experience.

In countries around the world, fake news is increasingly becoming a problem and it comes down to a matter of missing facts and ill-informed information.

For example, India has been facing a major law and order problems caused by fake stories especially when they have led to mob lynching and mass hysteria. The Honorable Supreme Court has strongly expressed its stance and has directed social media platforms to take appropriate measures to suppress fake news. By providing a messaging service with capabilities to tackle fake links, Truecaller is taking a big step towards curbing the problems caused by spam and false information going viral.

We hope that by introducing Truecaller Chat, this will be a big step towards curbing the problems caused by spam and false information going viral and helping people distinguish misinformation in their daily lives.
