After building an app that safeguards people in their digital lives, we are making a commitment to safety in the physical world. After 15 months of dedicated work from our team, we are proud to announce our new personal safety app, Guardians.

Guardians was born out of a simple question – how can we make personal safety community based, just like the way Truecaller’s community protects each other against spam, scams and fraud?

Our engineering team has a proven track record of building great user experiences and we have also crossed the milestone of 270 Million active users (200 Million in India alone). With this kind of dedication, our past four years of research on women’s safety and campaigns like #ItsNokOk, we better understand this problem, and are learning more as we build. It’s now time to do something about making our cities safer for everyone.

How Guardians Works:

Guardians is simple to use and setup. If you are already a Truecaller user, you can sign in with one tap. If you’re not a Truecaller user, your phone number will be verified using a missed call or OTP.

We know how important privacy is in the digital world, so we’ve made our permissions simple and transparent. The app needs only three permissions:

  • Location (to help your Guardians follow your journey)
  • Contacts (so you can select and invite your personal Guardians)
  • Phone permission (to show your phone status to your trusted Guardians)

Our Promise:
Guardians will never share any personal information with any third party apps for commercial use, including our very own Truecaller app. This is our commitment to personal safety.

As a user of Guardians, you are in complete control at all times. You can select your own personal Guardians from your contact list, choose when to stop/start sharing location and setup permanent sharing with selected Guardians. If you are just sharing your location for a particular trip, Guardians works quietly in the background. If you don’t feel safe or are facing an emergency situation, tap the emergency button to notify all your Guardians about your location and situation.

Different modes for important situations

In Emergency mode, your Guardians will be notified and will be able to precisely follow your location, know when you’ve reached your location or be able to send help. In the future, Emergency mode will also have the ability to share your location with volunteer Guardians who may be in the vicinity where you’re seeking help. Accepting help from the community is your choice. Soon, you can also get help from local law enforcement through the app – so that you can get help in the shortest span of time.

In normal mode, the app is designed to quietly run in the background and share location intermittently with your selected Guardians while preserving battery life.

Guardians is available for Android as a free download from Google Play Store, Apple App Store or at GetGuardians.com. All features are free to use – there are no ads or paid subscriptions.
