Install Your Truecaller Travel eSIM in Under 5 Minutes

Check whether your device is compatible with Truecaller eSIM before purchasing a plan. Most smartphones released from 2018 onwards support eSIM, but there are exceptions based on carrier locking and regional variants.

How a Truecaller travel eSIM works — step by step

Getting connected abroad with a Truecaller eSIM follows a straightforward sequence. Here's the complete process from start to finish.

Before you buy

1

Select your destination

Search for a city (e.g. Paris, Tokyo, New York), a country (like Italy, the UK, Canada), a region (such as Europe, North America, Asia), or Global if you are on a world tour on the Truecaller eSIM website. If you're travelling to multiple countries, our regional or global plans may be more cost-effective than individual countries' plans.

2

Select a plan

Choose the data volume and validity period that fits your trip. All Truecaller plans are prepaid — you pay once and there are no automatic renewals or surprise charges afterwards. If you run out of data before your plan expires, you can top up at any time.

3

Confirm device compatibility

Before purchasing, verify your device supports eSIM. Open your phone dialler and type *#06# — if an EID number appears, your phone is compatible. Your device must also be unlocked (not carrier-locked) and not jailbroken or rooted. Check our full compatibility list if unsure.

Purchase and install

4

Confirm your country of residence and sign in

At checkout, select your country of residence for tax calculation purposes, then sign in with your Google account. Your account lets you manage all your eSIM plans from any device.

5

Make the payment

Truecaller eSIM uses Stripe as its payment processor. Your card details are managed by Stripe — Truecaller never sees or stores your payment information. You'll receive an invoice to your email address after the payment completes.

6

Install your eSIM

After payment, you'll be taken to a confirmation screen with an install button (on mobile) or a QR code (on desktop). Tap install or scan the QR code and follow the on-screen prompts. Installation takes about 5 minutes.

You need an internet connection to install your eSIM

You need an active internet connection to install an eSIM. Install before you travel — waiting until you land means you may not have connectivity to complete the setup.

Enable and connect

7

Enable the eSIM in your device settings

After installation, you'll need to configure your device settings to use the eSIM for data. Do this after landing at your destination — activating data before you arrive may connect to a home network and start your plan validity early.

On iPhone:

  • Settings → Mobile Service → tap Truecaller eSIM (may appear as "Travel - Connect" or "Business - Connect")
  • Toggle "Turn On This Line" to active
  • Turn on "Data Roaming"
  • Go back to Mobile Service → Mobile Data → select Truecaller eSIM
  • Turn off "Allow Mobile Data Switching" to prevent accidental home carrier charges
8

Enjoy mobile data while you travel

Once enabled, your plan activates the moment your phone connects to a supported network at your destination. The validity clock starts then — not when you purchased the plan. Your home SIM remains active for calls and texts throughout your trip.

Rename your eSIM

Rename the eSIM to "Truecaller eSIM" so you can identify it easily. Go to Mobile Plan Label → Edit custom label. This prevents accidentally deleting the wrong eSIM.

Don't enable Global plan until arrival

If you bought a Global plan, do not turn on your eSIM line until you've physically arrived at your destination. Enabling it in your home country will immediately start your plan validity.

Top up and reuse

9

Top up if you run out of data

If you exhaust your data before your plan validity expires, top up from the My Plans page. Additional data is added to your existing eSIM instantly — no reinstallation needed. Truecaller never auto-renews plans, so you'll only be charged when you actively choose to top up.

10

New destination? Just buy another plan

Your Truecaller eSIM stays installed on your device permanently. For every future trip — whether it's the same country or a new destination — you simply purchase a new plan. There's no reinstallation, no QR codes to scan again, and no waiting. The eSIM is already there.

How to activate your Truecaller eSIM — detailed settings guide

Getting connected abroad with a Truecaller eSIM follows a straightforward sequence. Here's the complete process from start to finish.

1

Open your SIM lines

You'll see a list of your SIM lines. Your Truecaller eSIM may appear as "Travel - Connect" or "Business - Connect" till you rename it.

Settings → Mobile Services (or Cellular)

2

Rename the eSIM (recommended)

Renaming makes it easy to identify among multiple lines and prevents you from accidentally deleting it.

Tap eSIM name → Mobile Plan Label → Edit custom label → type "Truecaller eSIM"

3

Turn on the line

If the screen doesn't update, go back to the previous screen and tap the eSIM name again to refresh.

Tap Truecaller eSIM → toggle "Turn On This Line" to on

4

Enable data roaming

This allows the eSIM to connect to local carrier networks abroad. Without this, you'll have no data connection.

Still on Truecaller eSIM screen → turn on "Data Roaming"

5

Set as mobile data source

Do this after landing. Setting it before departure may cause your home carrier to be bypassed, affecting connectivity at home.

Settings → Mobile Service → Mobile Data → select Truecaller eSIM

6

Disable Allow Mobile Data Switching

This is critical. If left on, iOS may automatically switch to your home carrier for data under certain conditions, resulting in roaming charges from your primary carrier on top of your Truecaller plan.

Settings → Mobile Service → toggle "Allow Mobile Data Switching" to off

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my eSIM is active?

Look for signal bars (LTE/5G) on the top-right corner of your phone – if you can see it, then you have internet access. Moreover, you can log into your account on the Truecaller iPhone app or Website and see if the dashboard says "Active" – if yes, this means that your eSIM data plan is now in active state and your plan validity has started.

How do I change the network operator on my eSIM?

If you are having trouble with internet access on the default network provider on your eSIM, go to Settings > Mobile Service > [eSIM name] > Network Selection and select [alternate operator].

My eSIM is installed but there is no internet. What should I do?
  • Ensure Data Roaming is turned ON for the eSIM.
  • Ensure the eSIM is selected for Cellular Data.
  • Toggle Airplane Mode on and off to reset the connection.
Why is my eSIM showing 'No Service'?

Your eSIM could be showing "No Service" due to the following reasons:

  • Data roaming not enabled:Go to Settings > Mobile Service > [eSIM name] > Turn on this line > Turn the "Data Roaming" switch on
  • You are outside the coverage area:If you have purchased an eSIM plan for a specific country or region, it will work in only that location and not outside it. However, you can easily fix this by purchasing the eSIM data plan for your current location from our app or website (internet access required).
  • eSIM Activation issue:Another reason could be that your eSIM is not Activated correctly yet and you need to reinstall the eSIM. You can check if the activation was done properly by checking the Truecaller iPhone app or Website's dashboard to see if it says "Active". This means the eSIM was installed correctly (but Data Roaming may not be enabled or you may be out of coverage area). If it says "Not Activated", you need go through the eSIM Activation flow once again by tapping on the Activate button or scanning the QR code.
Can I delete and re-install my eSIM?

Yes, you can uninstall and reinstall Truecaller's travel eSIM. However, you can only use one eSIM on the same device – you cannot transfer the same eSIM between different devices.

You can reinstall one eSIM on your device a maximum of five times. If you uninstall the eSIM a fifth time, it will stop working and you will lose all the travel eSIM plans you purchased for it.
