FAQs: Android 16 and Your Truecaller Experience for OTP SMS

1. Why am I getting my OTPs late on Truecaller?

This is due to a recent change introduced by Google starting with Android 16, where the user won't be notified of OTP SMS on Truecaller unless it is set as the default messaging app (DMA).

This change affects SMS only and won’t impact OTPs received via Truecaller Business Chats.

To set Truecaller as your default SMS app:

  • Open the Truecaller app.
  • Go to Settings > Messaging > “Tap on "Make Truecaller default SMS app" > Choose Truecaller and set as default.

Alternatively:

Go to your phone’s Settings > Apps > Default apps > SMS app, and select Truecaller.

2. Why should I make Truecaller my Default Messaging App?

Making Truecaller your default app is the best way to ensure your messaging experience is not interrupted by this new Android 16 update.

You will continue to get:

  • Instant OTPs: No 3-hour delay.
  • Real-time Smart Notifications: See your OTPs and important alerts instantly.
  • Instant Smart Message IDs: Always know who is sending you an SMS and what is the OTP.

We strongly recommend all our users make this change to continue enjoying the seamless and smart messaging experience you love from Truecaller.
