Frequently Asked Questions — Important Senders
1. How does Truecaller suggest your important senders?
Our aim is to help you save time and feel safe when receiving business messages. There are 2 types of business messages you can receive. Messages from verified senders (Business Chat and Verified SMS) and from non-verified senders (SMS). Verified senders are identified by a blue tick or green circle on their tile. Some grid positions are reserved for verified business senders to help you easily identify trusted business communications. All senders are suggested based on the number of non-spam messages received from a sender and your engagement with such messages. The more non-spam messages and the fewer unread messages, the greater the chance of us suggesting a particular sender as important.
2. Where does Truecaller get the data for suggesting your important sender?
Truecaller only uses metadata about the messages to suggest these senders. Truecaller gets access to this data when you grant Truecaller read permissions to your SMS or when you receive a Business Chat. Granting read SMS permissions is secure, no SMS message content leaves the phone and all processing for producing the suggestion happens on your phone. We store only business sender ids that were suggested or customized by you to improve the product.
3. What if you don’t agree with the selection?
Please use the customize button to customize the senders that you think are most valuable to you. It doesn’t have to be a business sender, you can pick any other sender. The initial suggestion is just a suggestion to help you save time.
4. Can you turn off this feature?
The Important Senders grid is part of Truecaller's messaging features. If you wish to disable it, you would need to revoke SMS read permissions in your Truecaller settings. Please note that this will also affect other SMS-related features in Truecaller.
