We want to help your phone act the way it should. You make the calls you want, and you receive the calls you want. Nuisance calls are attacking your mobile phones, and for some people, it is a never-ending marathon of figuring out ways to stop them from calling or texting.

According to a recent article by The Guardian, there are 8 billion spam calls per year. Luckily, Truecaller helps identify and block 8 million of those calls per day.

We are going to explain a couple ways for you to nip the telemarketers before they take away from your daily activities. While there are a couple ways to stop receiving telesales calls from marketing companies, we have decided to name these methods for what they really are.

The ‘register on the registry that does not apply to everything’ method

You heard of those ‘telephone preferred service’ (TPS), ‘do not disturb’ (DND), do not call registry. These are usually government initiatives that help reduce the number of sales calls one can receive randomly. This is a great initiative for people to register with!

The catch: While they do help reduce the influx of nuisance calls, there is one problem: These lists do not cover companies randomly reaching out to their customers about deals, political calls, debt collections, etc.

The solution: Truecaller doesn’t discriminate nuisance calls! We are open to blocking any kind, any time, any place. A call center in Czech Republic rocking your boat about new lawn mower deals? You can block that call and any other call coming from that call center by inputting the country code and the first 3 numbers of that phone number. (Usually call centers have series of numbers).

The ‘I will just block the numbers I have received’ method

It is a great feature to be able to block numbers directly through your phone. You can find these settings usually under your phonebook (iOS) or in your settings (Android).

The catch: You will be able to block that one call. But that is just helping you for the moment, and not getting at the root of the issue. What happens when you switch phones? Your block list won’t go with you. How can you save your neighbor from the same fate?

Solution: Truecaller will help identify the cold call first, and then give you the option to block all top spam numbers. In fact, Truecaller will also let you report the number to other Truecaller users. Which means your neighbor who is using Truecaller will also be protected. That is one for the karma list!

Take Action in 1 Easy Step

  • Get Truecaller for free on your app store to identify numbers from all over the world; this means harmful fraud attempts, harassment calls, and just an all-around app to identify who is calling your phone.

Additional Action

  • Sign Which?‘s nuisance call petition.
  • Be careful about who and where you give your contact details, and educate you and your family about what could happen if contacted by a sales call.
