Every day, millions of people receive calls from numbers they don’t recognize. Some are legitimate, many are spam or scams - and new numbers appear all the time.
To keep Caller ID accurate and up to date, Truecaller for Android combines smart technology with community suggestions shared by people using the app every day.
What does “community suggestion” mean?
It's feedback that you, as a Truecaller user, choose to share about the caller based on your own experiences. This includes reporting spam or scam calls, suggesting caller’s details such as company, profession or job title, confirming business names, or flagging labels that don’t seem right.
Here’s how the process works
- A user shares input
This could be reporting a spam call, a name suggestion, company or profession suggestion.
- The input is combined with others
We look at suggestions from many different users, not just one. Individual suggestions are never shown on their own.
- The most relevant suggestions are selected
Our systems focus on the most common and meaningful suggestions. Similar or repetitive words are filtered out, and unclear or very short terms are excluded to keep suggestions useful and easy to understand.
- Safeguards
Community suggestions are carefully controlled to prevent misuse. The system omits words that should not appear in Caller ID and words that are personal or derogatory in nature.
At the heart of number identification on Truecaller is the experience of the people who use it every day. Community suggestions help surface the most relevant information about unknown numbers, while built-in checks and safeguards ensure that this input is used responsibly.
Combined with technology, these shared experiences turn into reliable call identification - helping millions of people around the world feel more confident and in control before answering a call.
At Truecaller, we have made it our mission to build trust in communication. We do our best to help you navigate a world where fraud and unwanted communication are a part of your daily life. Stay updated about recent scams, and watch the latest YouTube videos on how you and the 450 million-strong community of people using Truecaller every month can stay protected.
